Energize Your Mornings with this Blood Sugar Balancing Smoothie

Do you struggle with fatigue on a regular basis? A lot of things contribute to fatigue — poor sleep, stress, lack of activity, mental health, and your diet. You may find that you have to address multiple areas of your health and lifestyle to reduce chronic fatigue. However, if you’re feeling overly tired more days than not, one of the first things you should investigate is how stable your blood sugar levels are.

Blood sugar levels that experience significant cycles (think surges and dips) throughout the day can leave you feeling tired, hungry, and can increase your sugar cravings. When we give in to those sugar cravings, we’re met with a sugar crash a short while after, thus perpetuating the fatigue cycle. By keeping your blood sugars on a more even keel, you can help curb one key contributor to fatigue.

So how can you keep blood sugar in balance through your diet? One way is to start your day with this Cherry & Brazil Nut Smoothie. It’s high in fat and protein and low in natural sugars, which helps you begin your day with more neutral blood sugar levels, which will positively impact your energy levels for the rest of the day.

This particular recipe is dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan so it suits just about everyone. If you’re not a fan of cherry flavors, you can always mix up the ingredients as you like. As long as your smoothie contains protein, fat, and fiber you’ll be good to go.

We love this smoothie because it contains selenium-rich Brazil nuts that support thyroid function, and the broccoli sprouts and fibrous chia seeds work to encourage healthy detoxification and excretion pathways for your hormones, reducing your overall toxic load. Plus, it’s absolutely delicious.
