Easy 10-Minute Chocolate Truffles to Beat Your Night Sweats
Chocolate to the sleepytime rescue! Sleep issues affect around 50% of women during perimenopause and turns out, research shows indulging in a little chocolate before bedtime can help manage stress levels, reduce cravings, and improve sleep quality!
Night sweats are basically hot flashes when you’re sleeping that make getting a good night’s rest quite difficult, and up to half of women experience them in perimenopause.
Some women also report feeling hungrier during these years, but consuming refined sugars in excess can further exasperate symptoms of hormonal fluctuations. That’s why we love having nutrient-dense, blood sugar-stabilizing swaps on hand that still make treating yourself fun!
We use Medjool dates in this recipe as a natural sugar alternative for their sweet, caramel flavor that packs in quite the nutrient punch. These small fruits have 50% more potassium than bananas based on weight, and have the most antioxidants out of similar fruits like dried plums and figs! Fiber from the dates and chia seeds work to encourage healthy hormone detoxification, reduce overall toxic load, and keep nighttime cravings at bay.
Chocolate is rich in polyphenols with anti-inflammatory properties, and also magnesium, which is key for regulating the hormone that controls your circadian rhythm, melatonin. The benefits don’t stop there thought! It has also been linked to boosted moods and higher relaxation, and we use unsweetened cocoa powder in this recipe which gives these chocolate truffles a creamy chocolate flavor that avoids any excess sugar which can further impact our hormones.
